More than 1.4 million residents of North Carolina, including 82,000 Wake County residents, enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) did not receive new benefits in November 2025 due to the current federal government shutdown.
Food insecurity is expected to be at an all time high in our church family, in our neighborhoods, and in the broader community throughout the next few months, and we have the opportunity to help kids and families in several different ways!
FIND FOOD LOCALLY
If you or someone you know are in need of supplemental food resources (including pantry staples and even hot meals), check out the interactive Wake County FOOD FINDER for local pantries, distribution pop-ups, and more. Simply click on any of the blue markers located on the map provided at the link to view information such as address, hours, etc.
Many local restaurants are also currently offering free or discounted options for those in need. Click the link below for info on some of the free food or meals available in this area.

DONATION OPPORTUNITIES
If you feel led, there are lots of ways to donate to help those in need of additional food resources during this time. Click any of the links here to find ways to donate actual food items, give financially, or volunteer your time to a just a few of the organizations that have boots on the ground, distributing food across our county and state.
In speaking directly with representatives at a few of these organizations, physical donations are always welcome… At the same time, most of these organizations have the access and capability to purchase food items at a cheaper rate than the general public. This means these orgs can often purchase double the amount of food that we can with the same amount of money. So financial donations are also very welcome. Both make a big difference and are appreciated!
MOBILE MARKET OUTREACH
For the past six years, Northpark has partnered with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle to host a Mobile Food Market in The Oaks community on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays each month. Volunteers are always welcome, but with the current expectation of increased need in our communities, volunteers are more welcome than ever!
Check out the Mobile Market section of Northpark’s website (OUTREACH) or click the link below to get all the details!
